Pathophysiology studies the biological mechanisms of diseases to gain an understanding of their emergence and evolution, therefore enabling the development of better therapeutic strategies for treatment. Research is carried out through pre-clinical, clinical and epidemiological studies.
Neuroscience studies the central nervous system in a context integrating basic and clinical sciences. It firstly aims to understand the operation of a normal brain, and subsequently to comprehend the pathological process and its treatment. While Neurochemistry and Neurophysiology are based on basic sciences, Psychology, Neurology, Neurosurgery and Psychiatry are based on clinical sciences.
Physiology of Exercise studies the effects of physical exercise on normal physiology, as well as the repercussions for the treatment of diseases. This requires integration of Physical Education, Physiotherapy and knowledge of Medicine.
